I currenlty have an Oly Arms PCR-9 in 9mm with a
fixed carry handle.

Been trying to mount red dots and OKOs to it and
on the goosenecks, it's not really working for
me. But I haven't tried the Bennie Cooley
adjustable gooseneck yet.

I have a loose rear sight on my Oly 9mm upper and
need to send the upper back to Oly in Olypmia for
repair.

Was thinking of having them just upgrade my
reciever to a flattop configuration. So I'll be
in for a $150. But no rear sight. So if I
purchase a tactical carry handle, that will be
another good $150. So I'm in for $300 for the
same old 9mm setup.

Wouldn't it be cheaper/better to just keep the A2
9mm upper and buy another flattop upper for
another $200? A 10mm Flattop would be neat!

What do you think

I think you know that you want...another upper. Then of course a upper looks lonely without a lower.....:D

What brand of Gooseneck are you using now?

We have Colt Scout forward mounts w/Trijicon Reflex sights on our AR15s at work. They seem to be a very decent setup for a over the handguard type mount.

Had a Cavalry Arms Carry Forward handle Mount with an 4 MOA red dot OKO reflex sight.

But could not get it to co-witness on my rig. And the mount was flimsy and would not stay put.

Got a refund and decided to play with my tasco 42mm red dot scope. so bought a straight bar weaver mount and mounted the red dot. Even far forward it's an awkward setup.

I hear the Bennie Cooley ajdustable may not be too bad but I'll look into the Colt Sout as well.

Anybody else?

Where can you buy a pistol caliber upper for just $200?

I had the a similar delimma a few years back. My AR had an A1 carry handle, and I just couldn't get a red dot to mount worth a darn. It also had an 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" flash supressor (I didn't know!). I just sold the upper, and forked over the $$$ difference for a new flat-top upper with a 14.5" barrel.

If you're never gonna use the carry handle, trade for a new one. But DON'T get the tactical carry handle... it still limits your mounting options. They only work with REALLY LOW MOUNTED red-dot tube scopes. OKO's don't work (can't see the irons) and rings with any height at all block the irons as well. It was designed specifically to work the the Aimpoint and the wide "x" ring mount, and concensus is, this is the only one that works well with the "Tactical"....

Watch AR15.com and you can find good prices on ARMS #40's, DPMS Detachables, and GG&G Flips. These keep your mounting options much more flexible.

Remember, you can always raise the scope higher, but with the "tactical" handle, you can't lower it.

I agree with the above posts. Stay away from the carry handle because it becomes difficult (as you've seen) to mount scopes.

Converted A2 uppers always look like abortions. If you want the flattop upper, I'd just buy another upper instead of chopping the existing one.

I have a DPMS with A2 fixed carry handle. I put a BSA red dot on the carry handle via Weaver base, and it was easy enough to co-witness. You lose the good cheek weld, but a red dot is a "heads up" affair anyway. It works pretty well...good enough to zap coke cans at fifty, so I reckon it'd be minute-of-bad-guy at 100 yards. It's a see-through mount, so I can always drop down to irons for long-range shots.

Good counsel here.

I'll get Oly to fix the wiggly rear sight and keep the A2 9mm configuration.

And get another upper with a flat-top.

Thanks;)

Get another upper, you'll like having the variety.

Don't send it in to Oly for repairs, you'll be old(er) before you get it back. Try using some loc-tite to hold the A2 in place. -If not, use local smith, it'll be faster.
