Is there any way, such as with an aftermarket chassis, to convert a Remington SPS Tactical, to accept detachable 20rd .308 magazines, like 7.62 PMAGS? I've already got an SPS, and I also have a DPMS AR-10, but it would be cool to have both the AR-10 and the bolt action able to operate off of the same detachable magazines. I really like the 700, and it was a great price for what I do with it (I'm not really a hunter and I don't have thousands to spend on to p of the line rifles). Is this possible?

I looked into this some time ago, and several trusted sources said that such a conversion would require the removal of too much material from the reciever. There may be more to it than just that, as of yet I have never seen such a conversion. I had troubles with an HS Precision conversion, and would go with the Badger unit next time.

I know two guys that have done this conversion. Both found they had to use 10rd mags when shooting prone. Using 20 and 25 rd mags was out of the question, plus they added a lot of weight.

Now for my pet peeve, you own a LR-308 not a AR-10. The AR-10 is made by ArmaLite and the LR-308 is made by DPMS. Different rifles that have a similar appearance and very few interchangeable parts.

I personally wouldnt do it. The factory made Remington detachable mag guns that I have seen on the range had some difficulty keeping the mag locked in. I can only imagine that a heavier mag would be just as troublesome.

For the most part it cost a lot and if you don't really need it or can't use it do something else with the money. I am not against them. I love the detachable aspect.

For a lot of what I like to shoot single loading is a requirement. So I can't justify a detachable mag & then single load. For tactical matches it would make sense. For some other activities I would want it.

Slightly off topic but look at the Mossberg MVP - a rifle that comes stock to accept the AR-15 mags. Cool idea.
