I was at work today and one of my customers owns the range I shoot at. We were talking about shooting and another customer came in. He was apparently anti-gun because he looked at us like we were savages. Eventually he broke down and asked "Why do you even need a gun?" My only response was "To defend the rights and liberties of those who would ask why I need a gun." He honestly stopped for a minute then after listening to us discuss shooting asked if he could join me at the range, the woman who I was speaking to that owned the range hand wrote him a letter for free range admission for the evening we would be going. It brought a smile to my face and a warm feeling to my heart....

Good first strike...but you haven't converted him yet. The first thing you have to do is to get it through his head that "need-based" ownership is a Socialist/Communist doctrine.

He may enjoy himself on range day...but that doesn't mean that he'll change his views on why anyone should be allowed to own a gun without a demonstrated need.

Good luck!

I'm not an anti, but my wife is an Auntie. Is that close enough?

By the way, GREAT response.

Every time I see something about converting an anti I search and search for the bit about the lobotomy and the brain transplant ...

i think alot of it is ignorance

i took my roommate and my other roommates boyfriend to the range after i started to get the feeling they were leary of the "arsenal of weapons" I was getting

went with a 22 rifle, and a .40 pistol

shortly thereafter i bought a 22 pistol just for cheap practice, and mentioned it, my roomate says "when you go to pick it up, let me know I want to look at a 9mm or something"

"sure, not a problem"

Hawk84 that's wondiferous!

And that was a fantastically simple response, which is important because it's very easy to lose people not even halfway through a sentence sometimes, especially on guns, where many people don't understand or care about them and don't care to become educated.

Great job, don't give up till he's got his own and you've got a steady new range buddy.

Hopefully we will be going in the next few days,it was actually a double bonus because after the lady who owns the range left our shop she stopped by my bosses house as they are neighbors and she called to ask if I had any opinions on how to improve her range I could only think of one thing and the next morning my boss showed up with a hand written note saying I could pick up my brass as it is usually a complete loss range... I am going to start this guy of with .22 pistol and rifle, show him the shear joy of hitting a bullseye or threading the needle as I call it then work up to heavier rounds....
