I replaced my RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme press bushing with the Hornady Lock-N-Load press conversion bushing today and installed the L-N-L bushings on a set of Hornady dies. Now the dies take about a second to change, and they lock into the press very well - rock solid!

This seems to be a great upgrade to my single stage press. The only downside is that now I have to re-adjust all my dies when I install them into L-N-L bushings, but the effort seems to be worth the convenience of the L-N-L system. :)

By the way, the hardest part was finding a 1.5-inch socket to remove the RCBS press bushing. It is pretty shallow, so I would not want to have to do it with a wrench.

IMtheNRA,

The L-n-L conversion bushing is definitely the way to go with the Rock Chucker. I installed one last year after I bought a Hornady L-n-L AP so I could switch out my dies for those times when I am working up new loads.

That is my ideal combination too!

I really want to order a L-N-L AP progressive press and keep the RC for the same reason as you.

Do you find that you have to adjust the dies when switching them between these presses? If so, how much? I'm wondering if there is a way to "shim" the RC conversion bushing or the AP press bushing to make the dies the same height above the shellholders on both presses.

Now THAT would be convenient! :)

I have a LnL AP and a Hornady LnL single stage press and you have to make a small adjustment on the single stage to switch the same dies back and forth.

I wonder if they make peel washers that would fit the 'chucker?

That might allow a proper adjustment.

I took a fender washer and opened it up with a die grinder so it would fit over the treads of the L-n-L bushing on my Rock Chucker. It just happened to be the right thickness, slightly shy of 1/16" thick, to match the the stroke of Hornady press so now I don't have to adjust dies.
