Converting 11/87 for Home Defense

I have an 11/87 in 12 gauge. It came with the stock barrel and a non-rifled slug barrel. I have various chokes, including a Super Turkey, Modified, Full, and Improved. My questions:

1) How would you modify it for close-quarters home defense? Even if I'm shooting from the upper story of the house down into the foyer, it's only be about 20 feet.

2) What ammunition? Why?

There are two schools of thought involved here. One is to use whatever the FBI or the "Box of Truth" recommends. The other is to use whatever you have handy from bird shot on up to "whatever" because at this range it doesn't matter. Choose whichever school of thought you wish.

My personal recommendation is to use whatever you have handy. At 20 feet it doesn't matter. No conversions are necessary or recommended by yours truly. It will serve your purpose just fine as it is.

Remington makes an 11-87 already setup for dealing with bad guys.

It's called the 11-87P.

It's not on the regular website.

I have the 9849 with the ghost ring sights, and couldn't be happier.





It's all tacti-cool and everything, but the truth is that your shotgun will defend your home as well as this one.

This one would have the advantage for raiding crack houses or whatever(Seven shots), but I don't plan on doing any of that today
