(I know I've been asking a lot of 870 questions, lately...)

I have an 870 Wingmaster made in the mid 70s, that has some VERY minor LIGHT surface rust specks here and there. This gun duplicates some others I have, so I was toying with the idea of sending it to Wilson Combat for their "Remington Steal" package. In their description of work done to the gun, they mention converting it from 2-3/4" to 3".

Is this a wise thing to do? I'm guessing they either replace the barrel or lengthen the chamber, but are these older barrels and receivers strong enough for 3" magnums?

They state for $199.95, they replace the stocks with synthetic, parkerize the gun, convert to flexitab lifter, replace the mag spring and follower, re-anodize the trigger guard, replace the safety (presumably with the jumbo-head), replace all worn or damaged parts (there are non on this gun). They keep the old stocks.

This is a good price for the work they do to it.

Anyway - any thoughts on the wisdom of having it converted to 3"

Thanks!

That IS a terrif deal! If only they'd give you a 13" LOP stock!
The only reason I see for 3" chamber is INCASE you mix in a 3" shell or have to fire one in the heat of battle. Course maybe you want to fire them 3". The recievers are plenty strong and long enough , maybe they clean up the chamber with a reamer. ;)
