I have a flat top PA15 from PSA with a mid-length upper and Blackhawk adjustable stock. I might want to convert it to an A2 style fixed stock. Is is as simple as putting the new stock and buffer tube on, even though the rifle length buffer doesn’t match the mid-length gas system?

I’ve been shooting an A4 clone a lot lately and like the feel of the A2 length fixed stock. My A4 has carry handle iron sights while my mid-length rifle has a scope and flip up MBUS sights.

You will need the following parts to put an A2 stock on your rifle.
  1. A2 stock
  2. rifle buffer tube
  3. rifle length buffer and spring
  4. stock spacer
  5. long stock bolt*
*The A1 and A2 stocks use the same buffer tube but the A2 requires a spacer and longer stock screw.

As long as the stock, buffer, buffer spring, and buffer tube all match then it won't matter what gas length you are running on the upper. I use A1 and A2 stocks all the time on 16" uppers with carbine gas tubes.

I did just that on one of my ARs I use as accuracy test platform but required parts 12Bravo20 listed.

Instead, I would suggest you consider Strike Industries modular fixed stock (12.8 oz, Mil-Spec) with 3 spacers to adjust length of pull (12" to 14.25") with no additional parts to buy for $34 - https://www.joeboboutfitters.com/St...dular-Fixed-Stock-Blac-p/si-strike-mfs-bk.htm

The stock also allows you to use aluminum monopod for bench shooting $19 -

How can I tell if I have a milspec buffer tube or a commercial one on my mid length rifle? The Strike industries stock says it’s for mil spec.

The answer to this question seems obvious, but can I just swap lowers to try the A2 with the mid length and see if I like it?

I did exactly that a few years ago, but with an A1 stock and A2 buttplate. My midlength gas rifle works great with a rifle tube, buffer, and spring. As if it were designed for it.

For an A2 stock you'll need the spacer and longer screw that comes in one of those kits, but the rifle buffer, spring, and tube and will be the same and work the same.

I bought my parts from Fulton Armory. Their A2 kit is linked here. https://www.fulton-armory.com/buttstockassemblygroupa2newblack-1.aspx

Eventually, I swapped the red dot/fixed rear sight for a scope/flip up rear sight as seen below.

LiveLife beat me to it, I would highly recommend the modular fixed stock. I put one on my AR and have been very happy with it.
