I'm thinking of competing in an NRA registered Light Sporting Rifle match. I used to compete in NRA Highpower so I have a fantastic set of aperture sights, RPA 18mm front and PNW rear with Gehmann Irises front and rear.

The LSR rules have a max weight limit and my current target 10/22 is too heavy with the scope on it. So my idea would be to take the scope off and mount my aperture sights. I've done a fair bit of digging but I can't find anyone else who's mounted serious aperture sights onto a 10/22.

The RPA has a weaver base, so I'd need to install a 0.920 barrel band or turn the muzzle end down to accomodate a more normal size.

The PNW rear is a side mount. I haven't seen a 10/22 sight mount that fits side mount sights.

Even if I find mounts for both, I don't know if the height will match up.

The sights came off of a Tikka Master Sporter (if that helps at all)

also, on a separate but related note, anyone know how much the Talo Special Edition Ruger 10/22 Target model weighs to the ounce?

The page says 8 pounds, but my rear sight weighs 6.4 oz, so it'll be tight if I want to hit an 8.5 lb. limit. (of course I could probably free up mass by cutting down the barrel and adding a bloop tube to bump the sight radius)

thanks,

Yep, Tech Sights are pretty popular, but I'm more interested in olympic-style apertures rather than service-rifle style apertures.

the only thing i can think of would be to use a front sight extension tube and mount your front sight to that......

then i would try and find a set of rear sights that mount to a weaver base and use your existing rail.

if weight is an issue......ide imagine the easiest way would be to remove excess weight from the stock......
