What is the proper spring weight to shoot .45 Super or .450 SMC out of an HK USP? Do I need to make any other modifications?

I plan on modifying it to use as a traill/woods gun with just a quick switch of the recoil assembly.:)

Go over the ww.hkpro.com & ask the guys over there. There's at least one who shoots 45 super through his USP. Some will tell you no mods are necessary, but it would make some sense that you'd have less wear on your USP if you at least use a heavier recoil spring...good luck ;)

tho it isn't a large sample size, I have fired 20 SMC cartridges through my stock USP .45 with no malfunctions. My understanding was that the smaller, stiffer of the two recoil springs in the assembly absorbed the extra shock (i.e. decelerated the slide sufficiently towards the end) so excessive battering wouldn't occur.

fwiw,

cheers
