Coolest Handgun Ever! I think...

The Webly Fosberry revolver pre dated the Mateba by about 60 years.

Yep, the Mares Leg is definitley a looker.
Nope, wouldn't want to shoot one in a rifle caliber one handed

Josh Randalls gun belt was a rig set up with a spring clip at the bottom to hold the forearm from flopping around and the saddle ring on the receiver was slipped over a hook to secure the receiver. It required a backwards push on the top of the sawn off stock which pushed the forearm out of the spring clip.

If you looked in the cartridge loops on the "gunbelt" you would see 45-70 cartridges, darn things looked as long as the width of the belt!!!
Guess they were just for show as
'94's weren't in that caliber for real.

Wish I still had my cap gun version Mares Leg

I have a hard time believing this would be tough to handle in 44 mag or 45 colt.

CORRECT! Big diff between the recoil of a 1 ounce or heavier 12 gauge load (437 grains) or a 250 grain .45 Colt.

I wonder what the mag capacity is when using .45 Schofield, and whether or not the CASS folks would let you use it in the rifle portion of a match? I'd swap out the lever for the proper one though. Probably be prohibited in Maryland though.

It can be fired from the shoulder. It isn't an ideal firing position, but can be fired from there.
You could fire a revolver too if you wanted, Ill take a rifle please

Very cool and I'd love to have one,BUT there is no sense in it being over $600.
At $600, I'll bet they would sell over twice the amount of them at $1200.

I love 19th century guns, but the "mare's leg" is a gun that I wouldn't buy even if I had Bill Gates' money. Nevertheless, each dog to his own bone.

I still think that a Reid's "My Friend" Knuckleduster is the coolest handgun of all time. Not everyone agrees, but that's what makes a horse race. Here's a link:

If you couldn't manage to shoot someone with it, you could always just whack him over the head with the thing.

"I still have my full sized plastic Bounty Hunter rifle from my youth many years ago. Fires paper caps with the trigger or using the cocking lever."

I had one of those too when I was about 6 or 8 years old. How did you manage to hang onto it all these years ?

Dang it! Now I have to watch the entire Firefly series, again.

I doubt that I'll ever get a Mare's Leg. Pretty useless gun. It doesn't even seem like it'd be a very fun range toy. It would look cool hanging on the wall, or maybe carried as a unique barbecue gun, but otherwise pretty pointless.

On the subject of Firefly, is Wash carrying an Mateba in that picture?

When does he use that?

In the few episodes where he has a gun, I thought he carried what looked like a stainless N-frame Smith of some kind.

Oh good. When I saw the first post I thought I was going to be the first to mention Firefly. Good to see I'm not alone on the high road

....*raises hand sheepishly*.... er, another Firefly fan here. SF has been a big part of my life since my teens.

As for the mare's leg being practical? Obviously no it's not. But why does every gun or everything in this life need to be practical? I'd like to get a Ducati and a Ferrari. Neither is practical but they'd make me smile a lot.

Hell, up where I live ANY handgun is as practical as the mare's leg. That hasn't stopped me from getting a half dozen various types and planning on enjoying IPSC, IDPA and any other handgun "games" that I can try up this way.

Practical? For me no gun is "practical" up here if you're not a hunter out gathering food at a susistence level. And precious few of us in Canada fit THAT description.

In the US where guns can still be actually carried and serve a self defense purpose I suppose some would question the validity of this or some other guns. But even there if you're a gun owner that posts on a forum like this I'd think there would be room in your hearts for something that exists just to create smiles when you hold it and shoot it. No?

If it was $800 with stainless steel and without that pussy stock on the back, then I'd consider it a great buy.
