Anyone shot or see one? Anything like the grizzly or desert eagle?

At one time I owned a bunch of big bore auto's including the Grizzly, Coonan, 44 Automag, Wildey, and Desert Eagle.

The Grizzly and DE are really way to large for the .357 mag. The Coonan is close in size to a standard 1911 albeit the grip is bit longer front to back. For shooting .357, I would go with the Coonan over the others.

I ended up selling off most of my big bore autos but kept one Automag in 44AMP and one in .357AMP.

Coonan has been planning a re-release of the Coonan .357mag for a while now. Their website says it's coming, but that's about it - at least last time I checked. I didn't buy one when they were out the first time, but I may just have to when they hit the market this time around.

A friend and I got to shoot a few rounds with one a long time back in NV. I remember that the long grip felt unusual to me but I thought it made it easier to aim. Very well made, heavy, big boom! My friend commented later that he thought it to be "a novelty" with no practical use.

I´m looking at their website imagining a carry version of that thing...

Coonan did offer a carry version, which hopefully they will re-introduce. It was called the Cadet. Shortened frame, 4" bbl.
I was all about the new Coonans till I saw the MSRP.

What purpose is a pistol like this supposed to serve, other than as a curiosity?

A buddy of mine's Dad (A County Sheriff who passed a few years ago) carried one on duty from time to time. His had to be lubricated with RIG or lithium grease on the slide rails to prevent galling and keep it functional. Other than that, it was a nice handgun and it shot very well. My buddy still has it.

It serves the same purpose as any .357 magnum. With one in the chamber, it is an 8 shot .357 magnum that weighs 48 ounces and has an overall length of 8.3 inches. A comparable S&W 686 will hold 6 or seven shots, weigh within a couple ounces of the Coonan, and have a greater overall length.

Just seems crazy to me how expensive pistols are any more. Used ones have been going for these same prices, so hopefully it will drive those prices down!

also well put. seems right in the 1911 price range though. As long as its as high quality as a springfield or colt 1911 I suppose it is priced with what the market says is fair.
