COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A police officer fired shots as a suspect tried to ram him with a stolen car, NewsChannel 4's Natalie Walston reported.

Authorities said Officer Frank Miller was working special duty at the South Park Apartments on Saturday night when the incident happened, police said.

Police said Miller tried to apprehend Robert Eugene Ross, but the man instead drove a car right at the officer. Miller fired his gun and hit the car's windshield.

Miller was hit by the car and was treated and released for leg injuries, NewsChannel 4 reported.

Ross fled on foot to a nearby apartment, where he was later apprehended, authorities said.

Ross faces charges of felonious assault and receiving stolen property and is due to appear in court Monday morning, police said.

Now there's a nightmare scenario!
You're caught flat footed in a parking garage/or street as a car accelerates heavily at you! Besides being a tough target seated behind the wheel/engine block, many handgun rounds won't even penetrate and auto's front windshield glass.

I hope his leg injury isn't severe.
Illustrates just how inefficient a handgun really is.
Even though a .50BMG would disable the car and/or driver, it still wouldnt' STOP the car in time.
No good way out of this one.
