Cop shoots colleagues while cleaning gun

A HOMICIDE detective shot two constables at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain on Friday.
The shooting took place in the ground floor lobby of the building located at the corner of Edward and Sackville Streets around 6.45 p.m.
The officer said he was clearing his mini Uzi submachine gun when it accidentally went off shooting PC Dyer of the Guard and Emergency Branch and PC Henry of the Administration Branch.
Dyer was shot in the back and Henry in the right ankle.
Both were treated and the Port of Spain General Hospital and discharged.
According to initial reports, the officer failed to follow proper police procedure in clearing his weapon.
He was also not supposed to have cleared his weapon in the lobby of the building.
ASP Julie Carrington is investigating the matter and at the end of the enquiry it will be determined whether the officer will be charged with any criminal offence.
