I was watching an episode of COPS last night and an officer pulled his weapon on a suspect and was holding it "gangsta style" (sideways) the entire time.

I wonder how he holds a rifle?

What police department?

I'll bet they are so proud of their training! Actually, need somebody higher up in the dept. to post pics of this. "Don't Do This, signed Capt SoSo." That cop would never hear the end of it.

I didn't pay attention. I was trying to remember this morning, but I was in shock that I was seeing this and didn't pay attention at all as to what dept. was featured in this episode.

A slight cant in your wrist can make a one-handed hold more comfortable, but not any more than 30 degrees from upright.

Some people who are cross-dominant will cant a pistol to make it easier to get a sight picture. Also, depending on cover, or the situation, it might be the only way to get the pistol out there in a position to engage the target.

Thats how I shoot when I'm only using one hand. Of course, I'm cross-dominate and it works for me.

Instead of 30 degrees from upright, I hold mine 60 degrees in relation to the ground:neener:

I'm also cross-dominant, and cant my pistol slightly for a sight picture.

I was watching Cops on Saturday night, and watched them tazer a guy. :what: Very cool! Big dude, he later said he 280 lbs, dropped like a rock! They showed him a few minutes later, extremely compliant, repeating over and over, "That HURT! I don't wanna get shocked again." :D

Where can I get one?

I either saw that episode or another cop doing the same thing. Was he clearing a maroon colored van behind a building? In that episode I think the cop had his pistol completly horizontal while walking around to the front of the van.

jwmoore, I saw that episode too. That was very cool! If you wanna see more videos of people getting tased go to www.taser.com

I guess it is better than being shot but somehow the whole thing "master/slave" relationship just makes me mad. Its like they are training a dog, "stop or I'll shock you again... shock..."

Part of me gets mad that they are subduing someone like that but if they weren't driving drunk or trying to fight, I guess it wouldn't be an issue. Something about watching someone get cuffed or taken by force just always sits wrong in me for some reason. It must just be me.

They tasered a lady in a town near Tulsa the other day and it had no impact at all. She had a knife and came at them and they finally had to shoot her. I can't find the newspaper story right now, but if I remember correctly it was the town of Pawnee, and she had mental health issues.

Cross-dominant-Shmoss-dominant.

I am "cross-dominant" (shoot a pistol righty, left-eye dominate...but I shoot a rifle lefty.

I have been shooting pistols over 25 years, and never canted a pistol one degree.

Anyone recognize this?

"Chief, can I hold my gun sideways? It looks so much cooler that way."

"You're the birthday boy, Lou."

:D

To get my sights back on target quickly, I was taught to hold my gun at ~15 degree angle inward when shooting single-handed. Works great. Try it sometime. The degree of cant varies per shooter. I found 15 reliable. Others may need more or less.
