The "contiguous state" requirement disappeared in 1986 from Federal law.Trent Damn, from that linked ATF document above, I happen to find the opinion on "contiguous state" the most interesting read. I didn't realize you could buy a long gun over the counter anywhere in the US, regardless of your state of residence.
States may have more restrictive laws.....you cannot acquire a firearm in another state if that firearm is prohibited in your own state of residence.
