I'm trying to duplicate the Corbon 200 gr. .45ACP load with the HUGE hollowpoint cavity. Anyone know what bullet they used and where it or it's equivalent can be found? What about the powder and charge? They claim 1050 fps from a 5" 1911. (Remember the flying ashtray?)

corbon states that the powder they use is not available in canister form...ya right!
at 1000 fps they are probably using about 6- 8 grains of red dot, herco, bullseye or unique.

8.2gr of Power Pistol will give me 1030fps from my P14 using a 200 Gold Dot. They used to use Sierra JHP, but I am not sure what they use now.

Sierra Power Jackets have big hollow points.

I would hesitate to use fast burning powders like Bullseye, Herco, or Red Dot.

The powders I would try (lots of .45 Super research) would be:

AA#7

HS6

HS7

Ramshot Enforcer

...or other powders of similar speed from VV and the like...

My personal choice would be to start at 10 grains of AA#7 and work up from there. (from the AA loading manual)

BTW, I have a 230 FMJ load that goes 1200 FPS, in my gun only.

A 200 gr. should hit 1050 FPS easily with the powders listed above.

YMMV,

Mike

the 200 grain does 1085 from my 1911. All the Corbon bullets look the same now and are loaded to the same C.O.L. the recovered bullets look a lot like the recovered 200 grain jobs and the 185 and 165 show more fragmentation.
