Has anybody used cotton cleaning patches as shooting patches? Is the mesh dense enough? Thanks in advance.

I go to wal mart and buy a couple of yds of diaper flanel to cut and use for cleaning patches, never thought about useing them for shooting patches might not be tight enough weave material.:D

I've done it with only mediocre success. The cotton cleaning patches usually won't remain intact in any of my ragmouth rifles. They may perform better from a smooth bore where they have a little less hostile environment during the trip to the muzzle, but I have always had to use heavier material if I was interested in any measure of acceptable accuracy.

I go to Wal-Mart and buy (100% cotton) pillow ticking by the yard. Cut to size, and you have ideal patch material.

BTW, patches don't have to be round; square works just as well.

I long ago went to the standard USGI .30 caliber patches (Brownell's has them).
The price is reasonable considering that they do the job right.

A lot of the patches--particularly anything with much synthetic material in them--aren't worth what you paid for them so the money is just wasted.
