I heard some years ago there was a scam involving counterfeit Mexican-made SIG's that were imported into the US. Does anyone here know more about it?

i.e., was the quality of them obviously inferior that you'd immediately know it were counterfeit?

Yep, and they are easy to spot.

They just say SI on the side of the slide. :neener:

Interesting though it seems like BS to me though Mexico did/does produce firearms. China however I believe is now making Sig clones though they are not importable. Also Spain thru Astra has made guns that look a lot like Sig-Sauers and have the decocker like them.

any more info on this? I heard it was on the news back when it was happening a couple years back.

My dad used to take me with him when he bought these in Downtown El Paso. We'd go down the stairs of this cheap hotel to a certain door. He'd knock a certain number of times based on what he wanted. Then he'd slide cash through the door and whoever was on the other side would open the door a crack and hand out the package.

My dad was always terrified that the ATF would bust him. I never saw what the big deal was-they were just Marlboros!

BTW- True Story!

There are Chinese made knockoffs too. Check out the www.marstar.ca site. Maybe the Mexican guns are counterfeit Chinese guns with Made in Mexico stamped on em. :p
