Cowboy Action Loads

This ain't rocket science. If standard pressure .45Colt loads run a 250gr at 900fps and cowboy loads run the same bullet about 750fps, it stands to reason that the pressure is lower. All one has to do is look at Hodgdon's reloading data for a 250gr cast bullet and extrapolate that if all their starting loads are below 10,000psi (or CUP) and around 700-750fps, you're in the ballpark. Virtually any starting load is going to be under 10,000. If a fast burning powder like Titegroup is running 716fps and under 8000CUP, I think you'll be ok. Hell, 5.9gr of 231/HP-38 under a 200gr RNFP gets 760fps and only 5800CUP. I don't need to be told that these are "cowboy loads".

At this level it really doesn't matter if it's PSI or CUP. If it did, you'd have bigger things to worry about.

MEHavey,

Thanks for posting the charts. Too many folks think because it is a bulky powder, Trail Boss is a low pressure powder. Apparently it is not.
