As a former competitor and stage designer for both local and regional SASS matches, I agree with Varminterror. It's a challenge to create 5 to 12 stages that accommodate 10 to 20 shooters per stage and have all the stages completed in roughly the same time. Otherwise, there's a traffic jam. While one shooter who takes an extra minute or two to reload may not seem like a big deal, it adds up and delays other shooters. Yes, if you show up with only one revolver, you have multiple offers of loaners.

I ended up shooting two Ruger Vaqueros, a Uberti Yellowboy (all in .45 Colt), and a Stoeger double barrel. The Vaqueros had action jobs to smooth out the triggers. The rifle had a short stroke kit, and the chambers in the Stoeger were polished to aid extraction. None of that changed my scores much, and none of it is necessary to start. It is not a cheap shooting sport, but then most aren't.
