Cowboy Rifle for HD?

The Rossi Puma, a clone of the Winchester '92, can be had in 16" barrels, stainless or blued, in several pistol calibers. They're not that expensive either. I have two, one in 357 and one in 44 mag. Mine have 20" barrels and the 357 is my HD weapon. They're a hoot to shoot and very easy to control.

If you're using one in a handgun caliber (e.g. .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt) then you need to be VERY careful about ammo selection.
P'man, it's good to see you back.

(Du'ude, where you been for so long?)

Nice to see that my 1894C
(that replaced the 870P for HD)
is on the low end of that recoil spectrum,
so it's less likely to blow up on me. :uhoh:

Haven't read of such an incident yet
w/ a .357 Mag carbine. :scrutiny:

Good thing, 'cause I love that little puppy.

The thread is a couple of months old but I will chime in anyway. I formerly used an old Winchester 94 .30-30 for primary HD w/ a 1911 as backup before I switched to a 12GA shotgun. Now the .30-30 is the back up. I like the extra close range stopping power of 12 GA slugs over the .30-30 as well having a light attached in case it is dark and there is no power. It also carries more rounds.

But I never felt disarmed with the old lever gun.

The lever gun has it's advantages. I can hang the 94 on the wall in my living room and it seldom gets a second glance, other for people to remark at what a fine old rifle it is. I keep five in the mag and check it about once a month. This ensures a reliable, powerful gun that I can bring into play that has more power than just about any hand gun and will still not shoot through the interior brick walls of my home. The short barrel makes it quite handy and the lever handle makes it very difficult to take away in case I should ever have to grappel in a hallway. Ammo is cheap for rifle ammo and as an added bonus it is just nice to look at.
