Marlin 1894C or 1894 Cowboy

Just an FYI.
My 1894c was purchased at Big 5 for $299 also. I did not know other places were selling ones with the checked stocks.

Personally, I like the smooth wood. Can't complain about the price tag either.

Titus,
Nice setup. I have toyed with the idea of going with a "scout" setup. May have to give that a try.

Titus, that may be very functional but that just doesn't look right. What would the Duke say? :)

I've got an 1894 Cowboy in 45 Colt that I mounted a Marbles Tang Sight on. I'm very pleased with it so far.

Ha! :) It was either that or teach my wife to shoot left handed, and I don't know nothing about that.

I had a Williams Foolproof on my old .44 Trapper and that's not a bad way to go either.

The mount (XS Lever Scout) goes right on. It is a Weaver rail. Only problem I had was the first ring I bought was marked as a Weaver, but turned out to be a Picatinny crossbolt.

I don't believe what I've done...

Well, you know I fully intended to get the Cowboy. But DDC pretty much nailed my motivation for wanting the rifle. And, I don't know how many times I've seen Brian's picture with the matching rifle and revolver, but each time I get a bit more enamored with the checkering. Titus, I doubt if I rush out to give the scout treatment to my 1894, but you dared me to "resist" if I could.

Truth is, I couldn't.

Today I placed an order for the Marlin 1894C. Should be here a week from tomorrow. For the difference in price from the Cowboy, I'll buy some ammo and give the new gal a workout.

Thanks to all the Marlin-lovers that responded to this thread!

My Big 5 1894C came with the smooth stock.

I haven't felt like I was missing anything not having checkering.

Brownell's has a number of aftermarket stocks listed for the 1894C but I don't recall seeing any pictures.

Now you guys have done it.

All this talk about 1894's got me so hot and bothered I had to buy one yesterday.

I go home and ask Mrs. Sawdust "Hon, how much do you love me?"

She just rolled her eyes and said "What gun did you buy *now*?"

LOL

You should have done what I did... "Hey, guess what I got you, dear?" Okay, actually it was for her, but she didn't necessarily know she wanted it at the time. :) Now it's her favorite, and it gave me an excuse to bring home a nice 19-4.
