Hi all,

I have an old CH .44 Magnum Speed Seater die that has a bullet seater plug with a cracked tip. I was wondering if it would be ok to still use the cracked seater plug or should it be replaced? Thanks for your help!

If the crack has expanded, the plug will be out of round, and probably start and seat the bullet crooked.

Is the crack spread open?
Is it marking the bullets when you seat with it?

Was it mine, I'd silver solder it, then turn it round again in my lathe.

Cause you ain't gonna find any old C&H die repair parts like that.
Unless CH4D still makes them.

Hi bds, I just took a picture of the plug, but I don't think that I'll post it tonight.

rcmodel, the crack has spread open.

I haven't tried reloading with it yet because it was included with a collection of reloading equipment that I purchased back in March. My plan is to resell most of this collection.

I checked with CH4D's web site and they are still available.

One question, If it should be replaced, would a bullet seater plug for a Lyman seater die replace it? I tried the bullet seater plug from a Lyman .357 mag seater die and it threaded into the CH .44 Magnum Speed Seater die with no problem.

I don't know if it would or not.

The Lyman threads might be the same.
It is a pretty common thread.

But, the length & diameter of the plug itself where it centers inside the die might be completely different?

I just don't even care to guess.

But, If CH4D still has them?
Thats the one you should get.

rc, I was wondering about those same things too, Lyman plugs are probably going to be different. I guess CH is the way to go. I may just sell this die as is, we'll see. Thanks for your help!

Yea.
Thats probably beyond repair.

Too thin to sliver solder & turn down round again inside & out.
