Credit Card Theft at time of CCW Utah Permit Submission!!

I just sent my application, after completing my Utah CCW, in on April 30th. I paid using my credit card on the application. Yesterday I get a call from my bank asking me if I spent $3200 down in Mexico!! Of course not so someone ripped off my number and is using it Mexico. Well, that card is now canceled and Utah has not charged it yet. I'm going to have to review my paperwork (thankfully I copied it) and see if I can send another payment seperately. I should have paid with a check, thought the credit card would be better. Hind sight is 20:20.


Any recommendations on what to do? I'm not sure what number to call or if its the state or what?

Oh yeah, I won't be getting charged for the bill either....thankfully!

Just give em a call. I had an issue with my photo getting torn up when I submitted my app. I called them and they were super easy to deal with.

Doh, that's rotten timing! I had a credit card go bad on me too just last week. I purchased a bunch of ammo online from a reputable superstore and the very next day I got called by the bank that phony charges were put onto my card the same day so I squeaked by and didn't need to deal with trying to change payment method and terminated the card.

One of the purchases on my compromised credit card was at familyancestry.com . I would think the only thing worse you could buy on a stolen credit card would be a credit report.

I hope they catch the jerk! I hate identify thieves but it seems like the banks are on top of things as far as catching odd purchase history goes. *guns, guns, guns, ammo, Mexico* ding ding!

ED21, Thanks for giving me the number. I called and spoke with a nice woman who took my name and wrote a note to call me for when the time my application is reviewed. From there they will get the current credit card info.

One of the purchases on my compromised credit card was at familyancestry.com. I would think the only thing worse you could buy on a stolen credit card would be a credit report.

This is one of the methods used in stealing someone's identity - they can find out things like your SSN, your mother's maiden name, and lots of other useful information. Be careful and watch your credit/personal history. You might want to report the theft to your local PD as well, just to be on record if something happens.

Wait, if you sent your application in April and have not yet been charged, let alone received you permit, then something beyond credit card theft has gone wrong. People that sent their applications in AUGUST are now receiving permits.

If I had to guess, I'd bet that your entire application was stolen and you'll need to send the entire thing again.

I'd also go into MAJOR identity theft protection mode because beyond having your credit card, they also have your SSN, your address, name, and pretty much everything they need to assume your identity.

I would guess that it has been resolved since this thread is from back in May and he hasn't said anything.

Despite being inactive for 6 months, mrreynolds brought this post back to life to recommend the original poster click on his website. I'm sure this was because mrreynolds wanted to assist the poster and not because the site he runs is full of affiliate links that have more potential to make money for him if he drives more traffic to it.
