CRIME: One less vote
There is one less vote in favor of gun control among the residents of Alabama.
The late Thaddeus Antone undoubtedly would be in favor of taking away the Second Amendment rights of Americans.
True, it would not have kept him from using his gun in an attempted robbery and carjacking in Montgomery. But it would have prevented his victim, James Lowery, from being armed.
Lowery, however, was armed, although the 22-year-old Marine sergeant -- at home after duty in Afghanistan, where he had been employed serving his country -- was not looking for trouble.
He even got out of his car and surrendered his keys to Antone, but Antone shot Lowery in the face anyway.
Nevertheless, the wounded Lowery was able to get his .45-caliber pistol from his car and render Antone lifeless in short order.
Authorities are treating it as a case of self-defense, which is possible only when the victim is armed.
Had Lowery been living in England, which does not allow crime victims to have weapons, he quite likely would be dead and his bride of less than a year would be a young widow.
Lowery does not mind serving as a target for gunmen in foreign countries. His country should not ask him to be one at home.
