What's all the hoopla about the Hancock Ammendment and the cost to the Sheriff's? On the Missouri State Highway Patrol web site there is a section that has Section 43.530, RSMo. This Section of Missouri law states that the Highway Patrol can charge for CRID Record Checks.
CRID Record Checks to anyone. I'll bet sheriff's get a discount.

Section 43.530, RSMo., would permit the release of criminal history record information with accompanying fees to persons who are interested in obtaining an individual’s criminal history information.

A search can be processed with name, date of birth and social security number for a fee of five dollars. A response to a name search would provide only a “possible match†based on the search criteria of the person in question. The Criminal History Record Request Form is available on this web site, or you can contact the division direct at the mailing address, e-mail address or telephone number listed on the homepage for the Criminal Records and Identification Division (CRID).

A search can be processed based on fingerprints for a fee of fourteen dollars. A response to a fingerprint search will provide a “positive match†to the person in question. Fingerprint cards are available by contacting the Criminal Records and Identification Division at the mailing address, e-mail address or telephone number listed on CRID’s homepage.

The fee is due upon submission of the request and must be made payable only by check or money order to the “State of Missouri - Criminal Record System Fund.†CASH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Certain entities may qualify to be invoiced through SAM II.

Requests submitted in person for a single search can be processed in thirty minutes while you wait. The public window is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, except for weekends and holidays. State and Federal holidays are observed, and therefore, record checks will not be available on those days.

Electronic (diskette) request submissions are also acceptable and are encouraged when submitting five or more requests. Diskette procedures can be obtained by contacting the Criminal Records and Identification Division at the mailing address, e-mail address or telephone number listed on CRID’s homepage.

The criminal history Internet System is in the planning stage and once implemented the computerized criminal history CRID database will contain detailed information of arrest records based upon fingerprints provided by Missouri law enforcement agencies. Arrests that are not supported by fingerprints will not be included in this database. Additionally, warrant information, closed records, and juvenile records will not be available to the public.

That leaves alot of extra $$ for the sheriff's training and equipment fund!
