well, I THINK I just figured out the problem with my 9mm loads, crimp. can someone PLEASE post pictures of what proper crimps (Factory, Taper and Rolled) look like? from what I can tell from my Speer 13 and Lyman manuals I had roll crimp on my 9mm. I think. I'm not sure. maybe.

Hmm, didn't even think you could get roll-crimp dies for 9mm...

The seater/crimp die should have that information on it (at least my RCBS dies do).

All my older 9mm dies purchased for my single stage Rockchucker came with roll crimp dies. The ones I remember specifically were by Pacific and Lee. After some really messed up 9mms I learned to adjust the crimp so that it held the bullet tightly but did not roll the case mouth. Later dies I purchased by RCBS and LYMAM came with a taper crimp. Adjusting this requires only that the crimp is such that when the nose of a test cartridge is pressed against a hard surface the bullet doesn't move.

thank you Joe, I did a quick scan of that page and it should be of some help (and I'm using lee carbide dies I should have mentioned)

The best way to get a decent reload is to seat and crimp in seperate operations..In other words set your seating die up so it does nothing to the case, just seats the bullet..Get a taper crimp or Factory crimp die and set that to just remove the flare or bell that you put on the case so you could seat the bullet ..Too much crimp generaly makes for a loose bullet, what holds the bullet in place is case tension and that is what your sizing die does..
I hope this is of some help and is clearer than mud...
