i got some .308 speer 180 grn round nose, flat end. to use in 30-30. however they do not have the cannilur for the crimp. i imagine i will have to load one at a time and not in the tube magazine.

whats the best way to crimp with no cannilur groove in the bullet.

Get a Lee factory crimp die.

Or you could use any taper crimp die.

The case neck tension should hold the bullets in place. It it doesn't, you need a tighter sizing die.

Hey Scrat...If you plan to use those rounds in a .30-30 having a tubular magazine and they are pointed bullets you will have to hand load each one in the chamber anyway. Sooo why bother to crimp them in the first place. I load Sierra 150 grain SPT and I don't crimp them.:) I also don't load them in the magazine of my Winchester 94 either...

no they are round tip. i need a load data for them though. im thinking 29 grains. win 748. which burns slow so should be ok. what do you think

speer part number 2047

No problem Scrat...Just makin' sure...

My load for the 150s will not be posted by me until I have a chance to really test them. I started loading them long before I had a chronograph. I ran a few through one later, but have not had the time to really sit down and work with them. However...My load for the 170 grain Speer FNSP is 32 grains of W-748 and a heavy crimp.:)

then you know what 29 grains should work. i picked up a whole box 100ct bullets at a yard sale for 5.00. i got to try them out. i normally never go that high as i usually only shoot at the range but for 5.00 you cant go wrong. then im using less powder so im saving even more money.

hahahahahahha

ya pretty funny. so i drive a bmw to the shooting range.

when people say mount a press to your bumper i think ya right.

Scrat...I just escaped from california about 8 months ago. I was in Ventura County in a place called Santa Paula. So I understand.:) I shot at the Piru range just below the dam...

Let me know how you come out on those 180s. Will you be able to chrono them?

Nope i wish i could. Ventura county santa paula. very nice area. perfect weather all year round wow. So here is what i did. in really thinking about it. i loaded 6 rounds. 3 each at 26 grains max overall length at 2.54, then i loaded 3 rounds at 27.4 grains. 2.54 overall length. next weekend i will go out and see how they work. a guy i usually see out at the range on saturdays let me used his chronograph a few times before so im going to talk to him again. next week.

Hey bushmaster you wanna try some of these. If so pm me your address i can send you some. what 10 rounds. you can test them too and report back what you find.

I appreciate your offer, but I know the cost of shipping hazardous materials. As I also reload and have played with pointed bullets in my Ol' "Jack Handle", I'll gracefully decline your generous offer. Besides it's cold and wet outside right now. :D

Are those round nose soft points? If so you might recall that Remington's .30-30 Core-lokt are also the same. Just remembered...yours have no cannelure.:scrutiny:
