So, I have owned a CRKT Minimalist neck knife for all of three hours now, and I have already formulated opinions on it that need, nay, demand to be committed to the electronic page.

I bought this knife because I just sort of liked the looks of it and because it was inexpensive. I am no particular fan of neck knives in general, but I do own one (which is also a CRKT) that I keep attached to either my fishing or upland vest. Anyway, I bought it because it was a sub-20 dollar treat for me. Some guys buy booze, I buy a knife.

It is much smaller than I anticipated. That isn't really good or bad, it just is what it is. Quality of worksmanship on both knife and sheathe was perfectly acceptable. The knife isn't "hair-popping sharp", but it is sharp enough to be useful. I have fairly large hands and the handle fits my paws quite comfortably, which came as a little bit of a surprise. The wharncliffe blade makes perfect sense for this knife and I think that it makes this knife into something that is actually useful for it's size.

I wore it around my neck for an hour or so tonight when I left to go for a buggy ride and to get dinner, and it was comfortable. I don't anticipate on wearing it around my neck a whole bunch, but I was fairly surprised to learn that it wasn't the distraction that I thought it would be. I could see carrying this knife in a pocket just as easily, and it would probably ride pretty nicely in a mercharness or horizontally on the belt.

Things I don't like about it? Well, I immediately removed the little lanyard. it was nice and all, but I just don't need a lanyard on this knife. I will reuse the lanyard on my SAK. Secondly,in no way will I ever carry this knife in lieu of my normal Spyderco or Benchmade. Perhaps occasionally to supplement them, but it will never replace them. The fact is for me personally, it is a knife of somewhat limited usefulness. I don't mean that as a slam on the knife in any way: As I said, I bought it as an inexpensive treat for myself as opposed to selecting it purposely to fill a role for me. Others may and likely will find it to be much more useful on a daily basis than I will, and that is awesome.

In conclusion, if you are in the market for a small neck knife that doesn't cost a fortune, this might be the knife for you. It is well-made, can be found for under 20 bucks and is very light. As I said at the beginning of this, I haven't owned it but a few hours, so take all these opinions as nothing more than first impressions and with a grain of salt!
