Too late now but I was on Brownell's and bought a 3/4" dia 11 degree crowning tool. They had a 1/2D one that I couldn't see why one would buy it. Pretty much the same money.
Anyway, I relined a Stevens Visible (miserable) Loader that is in otherwise excellent condition mechanically. Can't figure how they washed out the bore. I just need to crown it to be done.
Not thinking I bought one of those lathe crowning tool bits but when I looked at the barrel, it is tapered so I couldn't see how to chuck it. I don't have a steady rest yet so I'm going with the piloted tool to get this done. I'll make my own pilot.
So why would someone buy the 1/2D tool? Recessed crown?
I went with the 3/4" d since I have a .62 underhammer and a .58 sidelock that a crown touch up would be welcome on.
Just curious.
