Question, If one sends a barreled action to a company for cryo treatment does that company need to have a FFL. One company says

>> As long as the trigger assembly is removed you will be shipping a "GUN PART". So you can ship via UPS or USPS Priority Mail. UPS includes $100 insurance with each package, USPS does not. A FFL is not required to ship gun parts. The US Postal Service has triangle tubes for Priority Mail and Express Shipping. There are 2 sizes; the smaller (0-1098S) is just the right size for a Mini-14 rifle barrel with plenty of room for packing. <<

Just gun parts, I think not. Isn't the action the firearm stripped or otherwise.
What are your thoughts on this.

It doesn't matter about any parts being removed or disassembled.

The part that counts is the "receiver", and it doesn't matter if it's stripped or part of a complete weapon.

A barreled action is a legally a firearm.

Thats what I thought. It does not sound like they have an FFL so I'm kind of hesitant to send a barreled action, even though their site says its good to go.

I checked the list for MO on the ATF's web site. They do not have an FFL. You need to remove the barrel from the action and send just the barrel for it to be legal. Action/receiver = firearm, whether or not it has a trigger installed.

As long as the trigger assembly is removed you will be shipping a "GUN PART"...

This has to be the silliest interpretation of "gun part" in existance. If by "trigger assembly" they really mean receiver then they would be correct.

I would be hesitant to use any company that is that ignorant of Federal firearms law and firearms terminology.

I feel the same. I have checked out a couple couple more company's and its the same story. 300 Below is supposed to be one of the best and they say the same thing, no FFL needed. I don't want to unscrew the barrel on this rifle, its real accurate, under an inch and a half at 100 yards, but it starts stringing shots as it warms up.

Right, well, if they are so good, why don't they know the law, also, if they are working on firearms as a regular basis, are they not considered a gunsmith,

A gunsmith is required to have a FFL.....

This is probably a better discussion for the rifle forum, but if I've got a rifle that's shooting 1.5 MOA, getting the barrel cryo'ed is not the first step I'd take toward improving the accuracy.

Apparently they do not know what they are talking about because this was under the pricing options;

CryoPro said:
There is no extra charge for the receiver, bolt, sight bases or gun parts that are attached to the barrel.

Sounds like some idiots on their way to Jail from reading their website, not a FFL and gunsmithing, and receiving interstate firearms
and encouraging people to ship them in violation of law

Yeah......
Thats the place I want to work on my gun
