After getting my Conceal Carry Permit and carrying for several months I am finding that I am not 100% comfortable carrying a striker fired weapon (XDm 3.8 Compact) with a round chambered. I have decided I prefer a hammer fired DA/SA for carry duty. I also want something shorter than the XDm's 6.75 overall length and hopefully slightly lighter weight. Love the XDm, just thinking it's not perfect (for me) for carry.

From the research I've done, that really brings me down to two pistols, the discontinued S&W CS9 and the CZ75 RAMI.

CS9 Advantages: Smallest of the two, I already own it's big cousin the 459 so I know the platform well, have never heard/read of feed/fire/extract failures.

CS9 Disadvantages: Less capacity, no longer being produced so holsters are hard to find, few or no available accessories like aftermarket grips, parts?, more expensive, harder to find.

CZ Advantages: Capacity, in production so holsters and accessories are easier to find, less expensive.

CZ Disadvantages: Larger of the two, less familiar with the platform, have read many threads/posts about fail to feed/extract, going back to the factory to get tweaked seems common.

Does anyone care to offer comments before I take the plunge? If I go with the CS9 are there any upgrades I need to consider?

The CS9 is a great gun, but you'll have to buy used. With the CZ you can buy new with a factory warranty.

Have the CZ 2075 Polymer -- 9mm -- Controls are similiar to my other CZ's and 1911's.

Most of the problems reported with the 2075 generally deal with the 40 S&W (from my research).

I got the 9mm for that reason and also since 9mm ammo is my caliber along with 45acp and 22lr. -- have a pretty good stockpile of 9mm.

I got the Polymer since it was $100 cheaper (for me) -- and since there is no grip options save me even more money in purchasing nice grips down the road.

I did replace the CZ Magazine Grip Extension on the 10 round with a Pearce for the Springfield XD Grip Extension -- will require some sanding/modification however does produce a better grip on the little gun for XL hands.

Holster Options -- alot of Springfield XD Compact Holster work great -- I have a Bianchi Size 11/13 Holster which fits great.

Alot of great information on the Original CZ Forum.

I would personally purchase the RAMI, not only because you can buy it new, but because I am a huge fan of the ergonomics, accuracy, and reliability of the CZ pistols. I have never personally seen a CZ pistol fail to function.
