First Look: The DP-12 Double Barrel Pump Shotgun

October 14, 2014 | Category: Articles / Blogs,Dropped Shot,Featured | By: Michael Bane

The DP-12 goes down a completely different, and decidedly unconventional, path. It has 2 7-round tube, but it also has 2 barrels!

I’ve pretty much stepped back on the first of the new generation of bullpup pump guns, notably the Kel-TEC KSG and the Turkish UTS-15 for a whole bunch of reasons, including ergonomics, unproven systems and, frankly, reports from people I trust that the guns still have hit-or-miss problems (that’s a gunwriter euphemism for, “They don’t work”). Oleg Volk at ALL OUTDOORS did a comparison of the 2 systems a while back.

I saw a prototype of a 3rd next gen pump at the NRA Show, but, honestly, didn’t pay that much attention to it. I did think it odd that the shotgun, the DP-12, was coming from Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Co., CSMC, (doing business as Standard Manufacturing LLC), the foremost manufacturer of premium double barreled shotguns in America. CSMC got their start making Winchester Custom Shop Model 21s, the iconic American side-by-side double. From that they’ve expanded into multiple lines of high-end doubles, including their top-of-the-line A. H. Fox guns that rival their much older Italian and English competitors. Using modern manufacturing techniques combined with old fashion hand-work craftsmanship, CSMC has brought high-end classic shotguns into reach for a much wider audience.

I am curious how the loading of it is. It looks like it may be a bit awkward. Although does appear to be better than the UTS-15. No clue how it compares to the KSG though.

Does this shoot two rounds with one trigger pull? If so I believe that makes this an NFA item though I could be wrong.

If not does it take 3" shells? I could imagine two 12 gauge 3" magnum 00 buck 15 pellet shells discharged at once could end a lot of problems from an attacker. That would be like getting hit with an entire magazine of 30 rounds from a MAC-11 .380 submachine gun at one time.

EDIT: Just learned this gun doesn't do that. Instead you get two shots per pump. Interesting, but seems like it could definetaly be a training issue is your guys are used to a single barrel pump gun.

I cannot believe CSMC is doing that. Tony's high-end guns must not be doing as well. His own gun, Galazan, is even more high end than the AH Fox he makes, running easily into 6 figures.

Maybe his engineer was bored one day....................

i ,m not up for one of those, but to each his own. but then again i don,t like basketball, but i do like football. eastbank.

I doubt it would change the pump I use for home defense. Having said that, I am curious about it. Michael Bane had nice things to say in his podcast last week about it. I've avoided the bull pups that have come out lately. I could possibly see getting one and taking it to a shotgun class to shake it out.

One barrel fires with a trigger pull. Then pull trigger to fire other barrel. Bang bang rack.

.
Sure, if the machine functions as it was intended by design, it will be all kinds of awesome. Just not my cup of tea.
