Even anti-gun Governor Cuomo feels that the COBIS ballistic identification system has been a boondoggle and needs to be eliminated.

For NYS residents, it could bring some relief, because not every gun maker submits a "proper" COBIS sample. Some gun dealers charge a mint to go to one of only a handful of "official" state police COBIS shell collection sites,and of course a buyer is always free to buy a used gun at their local store or source one on Gunbroker...

Removing COBIS also means less hands on the gun before you get it. I've had multiple guns that were scratched after coming back from the test round firing.

I'm just hoping that if COBIS goes away, it's not replaced by that BS microstamping, which has pretty much all of the same technical issues/limitations.
