For background, look here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=290618

Long story short, I'm trying to decide if I want to:

A. Buy a Tigr and put a custom barrel on it.

B. Buy a NDM-86.

C. Buy none of the above and save my money.

Anyone know how much it would cost, ballpark, to have a custom SVD barrel in 7.62x54R (24" length) made and installed on a Tigr (civilian SVD clone)? I believe the Tigr is going to be significantly cheaper than the NDM-86, but I have no sense for how much money would require to bring the carbine up to "real deal" SVD specs. SVD furniture is available, as are things like the front sight hood and stuff...the one thing you cannot get easily is an SVD barrel.

I've already emailed Krebs Custom, but have not heard back.

Thanks,

Mike

First, you may have difficulty finding anyone willing to undertake the job. You might try T. Mark Graham at Arizona Response Systems. Pac-Nor makes barrels in .311", or you could use a standard .308" barrel. Taking the barrel blank down to the dimensions you need and adding the gas system is where it'll get spendy. I'm not familiar enough with either gun to talk intelligently about what all needs to be done, but I would fully expect the barrel work to cost between $300-600 (or more), plus the cost of the blank ($275-350).

Unless I just HAD to have one, I believe I'd strongly consider a different project.

Thanks. So, very rough estimate ballpark figure is somewhere between $600 and a grand.

However, I would end up with a custom barreled SVD...and for probably less than the NDM-86 would cost, and CERTAINLY for less than what a real SVD would cost. Decisions, decisions.

I'll have to see what ARS says.

thanks!

Mike
