im planning a bit in advance but im saving my pennies to send my remington 700 .308 out for a bit of work im looking to build as accurate rifle as i can afford for target shooting
the rifle will be shot from a veriety of ranges anything from 100-1000 (and really anything i can try to hit beyond that just playing around)
it wont be a competition rifle just a for fun target and maybe hunting rifle
ive searched the internet for a few nights now looking for a custom shop that will give me the best bang for the buck and i have come accross a few shops here and there
i found Tactical Rifles and Nor-cal along with a few others
who would you go with in the end and why?
im looking at building a M40 or M24 clone just for fun but i want it to be a shooter
im looking to spend $2000 or less (preferably less) but the more accurate the more im willing to part with
also what kind of questions should i ask about the work being done and what should i expect of a good custom shops services?
once the rifle is finished what should i do on my end as far as other options accessories etc...
and lastly should there be anything i should get before doing this? i.e. parts i should install prior to shipping the rifle out
thanks in advance

$2000 seems like quite a bit to spend on shop work. Do you have a scope, stock, Jewell trigger, rings, bases and bipod already? You can get a top-of-the-line barrel and action job for about $850. I'm not talking benchrest realm here which I know nothing about, but certainly a rifle that will shoot 0.5MOA out to 1000 yards.

If you know what you want, check out Krieger Barrels Inc.. You'll have to wait a few months before you get your rifle back but it's REALLY worth it.

Dimis,

I've had several custom rifles built by several gunsmiths. I would without a doubt give George Gardner at G.A. Precision a call, and talk with him about your needs. Why G.A. Precision? Reputation and turnaround time. As one of the country's top gunsmiths, you will find his rifles being used by law enforcement agencys as well as individuals. And, with a fairly large shop, he has many of the quality parts in stock, so there is no waiting for a part to come in from a particular manufacturer. Remember, with some barrel or stock manufacturers, there can be a 6 month wait or more before the part reaches the gunsmith (I waited 1 year for my Obermeyer barrel). Just MHO.

thanks for all the help
1858 i plan on including all of those parts in with the 2k sorry i should have been more specific about that
basicly i just wanted to know what parts i should send along with the rifle for the smith to utilize (besides what he would have on hand) it would be a god send if i could just send the rifle by itself and have everythig needed done so i know that a smith did it and that i didnt muck something up trying to get it done on the cheap
ok well not all the parts you suggest because the scopes im looking into will be pretty pricey but other than that yea 2k for everything installed and the rifle accurized
