CVA .58 Zouave Problems

I have a .58 Zouave by CVA...shoots about ten inches high at 50-yd, whether round ball or minie. I've heard an opinion that these Spanish-made guns can't handle much pressure. Is this so? The front sight seems to be silver-soldered on...does anyone sell higher front sights or this a special gunsmith fabrication thing?

Guess what I'm asking is whether this gun is worth spending a bit of money on or whether I'm better off disposing of it and getting a nice (Italian-made) 3-band Enfield or Springfield...

Don't know what your charge is, but 60 grains of 2Fg is normal. If you are shooting a regular 500 grain Minie ball your velocity is probably under 1000 fps. All this adds up to a trajectory like a mortar. Wouldn't be suprised if your gun is near on at on hundred yards, have you tried it at this distance?

Back in the day I shot a lot with a Navy Arms Zouave and got annoyed at the high shooting at 50 yards, drilled a very small hole in the rear sight under the 100 yard notch and essentially created a peep sight. That cured the high shooting, the alternative is building up the front sight.

Also, got better accuracy shooting a patched round ball over 80 grains of 2Fg.

TooTaxed, My CVA Zouave shoots prettymuch on at 50 yards...you have the battle site 0-100, the second leaf site to 200yd, and the third lef site 300yd and beyond, correct? Unless someone changed the sites on it. Ron is right 60gr of BP with a 500gr Minnie , or R.B. works for me out to 300 yards.
One theing you can do is the following. Add an extended site cone solder it on top of the old one...works on Colt pistols should work on your rifle. Or file the notch lower on your rear site...
