CVA Scout in .45-70 using Black Powder?

Does anyone here have any experience shooting a CVA Scout in 45-70? Even better how about using it with BP?

I'd like to do a little BP cartridge shooting but I can't justify spending the money on something like a Sharps. I thought maybe one of these CVA Scouts at around $250 (despite the MSRP) might be a lot of fun?

What's the barrel length? And is that an integral muzzle brake in the picture?You really want at least 26" to get full combustion on a 45-70 black powder load, maybe even 28". The brake is going to foul something awful.

Your cheapest way into a pretty darn good 45-70 that you can shoot BPC in up to club competition level (not necessarily win ;-) Is to find an H&R Buffalo Classic. You can mount a lower cost Vernier tang sight and a Lyman globe sight on the front and be shooting out as far as most people have range access to with a rifle that will shoot full power smokeless rounds as well. They are pretty good looking too.

Thanks for your reply. The barrel is 25"...

I sorta kick myself for not buying a Buffalo back when they were deeply discounted. They looked too much like el cheapo H&R single shot shotguns to me at the time. Now they have kinda grown on me.

The Buffalo Rifle did intrigue me. That thing was created on the cheap with existing parts, a longer barrel and some Williams sights. I sometimes wonder if one of the engineers or guys on the shop floor built one for themselves and then they decided to produce them commercially?
