I've recently acquired an American Arms Inc. SA .44Mag 3 screw, where the cylinder stop is dragging to the point where at half cock the cylinder will not spin freely. I've polished the stop to no avail, however the spring seems to be pretty tight (strong). I'm talking tight, to where the cylinder is definitely scored.

I was wondering if I used a much lighter spring if that might solve the problem? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

To help figure it out, try putting the hammer in various positions before and after the half cock.
And watch what the locking bolt / cylinder stop is doing.
Is it up, down, inbetwixt?
You'll have to hold the hammer by hand, since the half cock position is being ignored.

I doubt it.

Bolt timing is accomplished by the split flat spring arm on the bolt slipping off the hammer cam at the right time to hold it down until is is supposed to slip off to lock the cylinder.

You may have a worn or mis-shaped hammer cam.
Or, a cracked or weak spring arm on the bolt.

I have no idea were you could get parts for it.

Man that was quick, I did check the different position of the hammer, and it (stop) still dragged on the cylinder.

RC I'm going to take it apart again and re-check the bolt, It sure is a pretty gun, so I'm not going to give up on it just yet.

The hammer cam had a burr on it, I filed it off and polished it up, and it works good as new. Once again I thank the dickens out of ya RC. Naturally I put some cold blue on the cylinder where it was dragging and it looks pretty good too. Thank God for Birchwood Casey paste blue.

You are welcome!

But I tell ya what!

Its a real chore keeping my crystal ball shined up enough to be able to see that stuff over the internet!! :D
