What kind of accuracy are people getting with the new Marlin XT tube fed 22 rifles when they shoot shorts, CB longs/shorts with a good scope.

My CZ rifle does not shoot CB Longs or even the Rem CBee ammo accurately.

Either the XT 22 with a tube magazine or the older 981 T rifles. I know the XT 22 has a pretty good trigger on it.

My 981T has good accuracy with CCI target shorts it was excellent with Aquila target shorts but those are no longer available. I should add I'm speaking of a distance of 25 yards which is what I set up my 981T for, short distance/shorts. Very quiet plinker.;)

One down side is availability of good shorts.

Were you getting within an inch group five shots at 25 yards with those shorts in your 981 T?

My XT-22TR shoots much better than 1" groups at 25 yards with the CCI shorts. It does particularly well with the HP and the Target shorts that are out now. I'd say it shoots about a half inch group at that distance and that's with iron sights. I think scopes just get in the way at short distances like that. I know we grew up shooting shorts in rifles without a scope and we killed lots and lots of squirrels with shorts.

The 981T and the XT-22TR are almost identical except for the trigger and a minor difference in the stocks. The big difference is of course the trigger. And the XT trigger is way better. I have a 925 with the T-900 trigger which was the best trigger Marlin had on their rimfires before the ProFire triggers came out. There really is no comparison IMO. Of course a person could put a Rifle Basix trigger on the 981T but that would make it considerably more expensive than the XT rifles.

I even like the trigger on my XT better than the AccuTrigger on my Savage MkIIBTV. It is only a little better but it is better IMO. Maybe I just got a really good exmple but they would be close on any of the rifles.

I wouldn't worry about the problems Marlin has had either. The XT was made in the Kentucky which is where the good rifles are coming from that Marlin makes now.

I have the 981T and it is minute of rabbit at 47 yards with shorts. That's on a still day because wind will certainly push that little guy around. I was leery of using at that range but it is definitely knocking them dead. Maybe my rabbits are small, I don't know. But to your question, yes I'm getting 1" groups or less at 25 yards with shorts. I'm a big fan of the 981T, quite happy with it.
