I'm thinking my next rifle needs to be a target .22. My only other .22 is a 10/22 target rifle. Right now, I'm thinking something along the lines of a target bolt action would be kind of nice. Target shooting would be the primary use, but I'd also like to do a bit of competition with it as well. I shoot primarily silhouette.

I'm looking at maybe picking up a CZ 452 or 453. All I know about these is they are darn good looking and give me the impression of an accurate rifle. Does anyone have any experience with these. I'd also be open to suggestions for any similar rifles as well.

The 452 or 453 will serve you well in MS Rimfire Hunter. Even the Varmint will meet weight with proper scope selection. (I think the barrel is thin and tapered enough to meet Hunter. Could be wrong though.) From what I've seen, they'll probably have some trouble against what some folks shoot in Standard.

A simple modification, replacement, or work on the sear of the 452 will do wonders on how much better the gun will perform. If you're not comfortable with component replacement or working on the fire control systems of rifles, then go with the 453. No parts will have to be inserted, replaced, or worked on, all of the necessary adjustments to make the trigger perform well are in place and just require a simple turn of the screws.

Other options include a few products from Anschütz for both classes.

Thanks, now that you mention it an Anschütz would be pretty sweet too. Doesn't seem like many people have much to say about CZ rifles though.

You're kidding right?! A lot of people have a lot to say about these rifles. Just happens to be not on this thread (a rarity). Do some searching here as well as over on rimfirecentral.com. A fine rifle indeed. Very accurate, though I don't think they were designed to compete against purely competitive rifles. In the end, I think it depends on how much formal vs informal target shooting you want to do and how much you want to spend to do it.

BTW, if you're going to shoot silhouette, CZ makes the 452 silhouette just for that. If you get the 452, you can pick up a $14 Brook's trigger kit from cz452.com, or even better, Whittakers, which will really sweeten the trigger.
