Just picked up a CZ 527 in .221 Fireball. It has a Hart 20" 1-12 barrel smithed by Roger Ferrell.
I have brass and dies on the way but not sure what bullet weight to use.
Some sites suggest 50-55g others ask for a bullet length (which I don't have yet).
I believe the factory load was a 40g +/-.
Any one here load .221?

I loaded for a friend's XP100 pistol. I went with 50gr HP's. Dandy little cartridge in the pistol, even more so in a rifle. No recoil and fairly quiet. With the 1-12 twist 52-53 grain bullets would be the heavier ones I would go with although it should stabilize 55gr bullets OK if you can push them fast enough. Congrats on a neat find, I would grab one if it came along.

My 221 Rem FB Remington 700 and 221 Rem FB Bullberry Contender carbine with a 22" barrel shoot best with 40 to 50 grain bullets.

The Contender has a 1-12 twist, I forget the twist on the Rem 700 barrel.

55 grain bullets do shoot fine but the velocity that can be obtained make expansion a bit iffy. Of course, if you want a non-expanding bullet to save a pelt, this would be a good option.

some pix. I think I got a deal, H-S Precision stock 6.5 x24x50 Leupold Vari -x 3 CZ257 with custom Bbl.,Harris bipod. $849.00
I think you stole it at that price! Been looking for a 221 in a cz action for a while myself and the lowest price I've seen is $1200. With the stock and scope, that is a screaming deal.

Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy .224 cal heads. Midsouth seems to have the best price not sure about shipping.
Natchezz Has good prices on the heads but shipping is almost 12.00 for 100 rounds

Another .221 Fireball question. Some of the older loading manuals call for 2400, W296 and BLC-lot2 for the loads in 10 1/2" fireball pistols.
Would it be safe to use that in a 20" Bbl.?
