Besides the fact that my son isn't wearing his shooting glasses? Take a look at the rear scope mount. The mounts are 30mm Leupold rings and the base of the back mount has migrated forward about half an inch! I started out putting 3 rounds of Black Hills .223 Rem 52gr boat tail hollow point through the same hole at 100 yards and then the groups started opening up a bit. Didn't realize the problem with the mount until I got back to the house to clean the rifle. I dismounted the scope and took a look at the rear mount. The Leupold mounts do have an off-set stop pin in the rear ring to fit the CZ. The pin was not sheared, but it had retracted into the base of the ring. OK, just need to screw it back out, but nooooo! The pin is not threaded and the hole doesn't extend into the inside of the base of the ring. There is no way to screw or pull the pin back out. So...

I cleaned the rail, the rings and all the screws with acetone, and LocTite'd and torqued all the screws when I remounted the scope. If the rear ring migrates again, I am sending the rings back to Leupold. But I have the week off and while I am up in the mountains, I want to keep shooting.

One other discovery -- in a drawer in the"mud room" there is some sort of pull-out device that came with the cabinets. I don't know what it is -- I have never seen it used. But it seems to make a really nice pull out bench for cleaning my rifles and working on scopes and such.

:eek: :confused:

Can't believe you didn't know that one. It's for single guys - that's where you put your dirty shirts. When you can't see the board, it's time for a trip to the dry cleaners. :rolleyes: You must be from the upstate...

:neener: :D

On a more serious note, is the scope moving in the rings or is it just the mount sliding off the back? I need to take a look at one of those critters to figure this one out.

experience, especially with the cz 527 models, has told me, and other's as well;
it is best to use factory CZ hi mount rings/bases. They are solid forged steel pieces, and the rear base comes with a male nub made into the mount, that fits
perfectly into the female notch, on the rear bridge.

I use Leupold rings without issue on my 527 Varmint. I'm going to second the 'return to Leupold as defective' recommendation.

Mine is 7.62x39 and I had a hell of a time with the scope mount and I used the CZ 1" rings. My scope kept moving backwards after about 10 rnds. I ended up lapping the rings and no more problems.

CZ Rings on my .223 Karmint Kevlar. Work great. :)

Again, the Leupold rings are generally excellent quality. And they have an off-set male post that precisely fits the CZ rail. But for some reason, the post on this set migrated back into the base of the ring and there is no way to push it back out from behind. I suspect that either the post was cut too short or that the hole it was set in was drilled too deep. I feel sure that they will exchange it and make it right. On the other hand, this is my last week of summer vacation and I really want to be able to shoot the rifle the rest of the week, so for now, I have repositioned the rear mount and tightened her back down.

The odd thing is that the scope didn't migrate backwards. The front ring is tight as a tick. The rear ring migrated forward, with about half its base hanging off the front edge of the rear portion of the scope rail, overhanging the breech. And in any case, the .223 isn't really a heavy recoil rifle. Look carefully and compare the position of the rear ring in the first and third photos. Oh well. . .
