Limited lifetime guarantee and air rifle rated -- it should hold up easily to the recoil of a .223.

Before the chorus of "Yer glass ain't nuthin' but trash" starts, I confess this is a temporary mount until I get something really nice. That is, presuming that the rifle and I shoot well enough to deserve some really nice glass. So for now, for about $200 total for the scope and the Leupold high mounts, it really seems to fit pretty well. The eye relief is OK. The bolt handle clears the bell and the sidewheel clears the mounts. All in all, not bad for starters. The LockTite is drying and I have next week off! Hope to post some 100 yard groups with 55gr FMJ's very soon.

Hope you are happy with your rig. I love my 527, although I have a straight 6x scope on it.

I like the scope; total copy of a nikko sterling, and if air rifle rated, you are right, adjustments should never move. So if the glass stays clear, you should be good to go.

Not my pick of scope, airgun rated or not, but I hope it all works out for you. Rings look decent though. Hope it shoots well.

What does airgun rated mean?

airgun rated means it is supposed to hold up to airgun use. Rifles recoil towards the shooter. Rifle scopes are designed to take this rearward recoil. Airguns that run on springs actually recoil forward as the piston and spring shoot forward and then compress rearward again. This can kill a scope designed for rearward only recoil. If its airgun rated it normally means the scope is built tough and can handle both rifle and airgun use. The problem with that rating is that its arbitrary. There is no standard that a scope must pass to make this rating. As such a manufacturer who puts out crap rifle scopes is going to label a crap scope as airgun rated as well. I don't mean that directed at Leapers. I don't have a hugely favorable impression of their scopes but I don't have near enough experience with them, especially their airgun scopes, to know if that statement holds true to them or not.

AirGun Rated

Air rifles, in particular, springers, have a double recoil. The rearward recoil occurs when the spring pushes the piston forward, then there is a jarring bounce of reverse recoil when the piston hits the end of the compression stroke and bounces back. Magnum power springers can destroy scopes designed for even high power fire arms, because firearm scopes are built to compensate for rearward recoil, not a double recoil.

I have more air rifles than conventional firearm rifles, and have several air rifle scopes on hand. I mounted a scope I already had, but will probably upgrade. I kind of like the tactical scope with side wheel and mil dot reticle. The Millett Tactical looks like a bette quality scope of similar design. I have previously owned a Niko Sterling and wasn't that impressed with the scope. The other air rifle scopes I really like are the Hawke scopes. I have a Hawke Eclipse I am rather fond of.
