I am planning on getting a bolt action and was plannning on purchasing a cZ-550 in the near future. A local gun store has one (used i think) but in good condition for $399. I was in Walmart the other day and they are having a clearance on some of their guns, they are letting go of some weatherby vanguards for an even $300.
which gun would you pick and why?I had a vanguard once and did like it, but I like the wood stock on the CZ and like the trigger arrangement a lot. Does anyone know which of hte guns has better accuracy?

I'm biased. I don't like Weatherbys and the darling of my safe is a CZ550 Lux in 9.3x62.

It's not fair of me to even comment on Weatherbys because my experience is very limited. However, the CZ has a long list of features I like- blued steel and walnut, controlled round feed, a fully adjustable trigger, a single set trigger whose pull is measured in ounces, a Mauser-style bolt that takes down with the push of a button and stock crossbolts. Mostly I like it because it is not the average Remchester.

Again, I cannot comment on the accuracy of Weatherbys. My own CZ will shoot one-inch three shot groups with hunting loads. CZ fans advocate bedding the stock but I haven't seen the need yet. CZ also ships its rifles with a test target (maybe MIA if this is a used rifle you're shopping) so you know they won't let a total dog get through.

Good luck either way. I'm sure the Weatherbys are fine. I just can't forgive them for their stock stylings of the 60's and 70's.
