CZ 75 Compact owners, what say you?

I have a CZ 75 B Stainless with over 8,000 rounds down range and also a 75D PCR with over 6,000 rounds fired and is also my daily carry gun.
Excellent pistols in every respect, nary a problem.

As far as poor Zak Smith's misfortunes go, he apparently has a black cloud over his head that follows him around
Not at all - I have plenty of firearms that work great for defense and competition. However, I've also gotten rid of a bunch or relegated them to "fun use only" because they didn't operate reliably enough for defense or competition use. If you want to know my thoughts about it, you can read the other thread.

But it's not just me that notices things wrong with CZs -- search for "cz pistol short throat" and you'll find plenty of other people who have noticed that one (which causes some well known commercial defense ammunition to not chamber properly).

and what about your favorite brand.....You know Glock, the only "fighting" pistol one should consider.

Search Glock as well:

Firing out of battery.
Lack of full case/cartridge support.
Void warranty with reloads.
Polygonal rifling & lead bullets.
KA-BOOM

I still say you're the only soul I've ever heard, have 4 or 5 (NIB) CZ's and only 1 that functioned correctly. Wouldn't most rational people stop spending their money at say 2 such miserable samples of a firearm?

Fooled me once, shame on you......Fooled me twice, shame on me.......Fooled me 4 or 5 times. :scrutiny:

That is a fair personal criticism of me. To be fair, they were not all purchased for defense use, and at that time I thought some tweaking was OK. Of the two steel Compacts I bought, one has worked from the get-go and the other never fed reliably even after a trip to CZ-USA for repair. I had Teddy Jacobson repair the second one and then sold it. It is those experiences and others that have helped to evolve my thinking on both competition and fighting pistols.

I don't know how you got the idea that Glock is my favorite brand. I do stand by my comments in the other thread, though.

CZ has the notorious short chamber, but I haven't had any issues with any factory rounds that I recall, just my first generation reloads, which I fixed. I usually keep my reloads to 1.122 or shorter, industry standard is 1.169. Haven't had problems with factory ammunition such as HydraShok, Golden Sabres, Remington JHP or Winchester White Box in P01s or PCRs, or the P07, or the wife's RAMI. Don't have a differant model to try yet, maybe a Phantom next year. :)

I have had 4 CZ's. 85 c, 75 compact, dedicated Kadet & 75 BD. I sold the BD & still regret it.

I have a question for the compact CZ owners out there. I have been looking for a compact 9mm for a while and have had great fortune with CZ rifle models in the past. I have heard the pistols are just as good. I also hear the SAO on the full size and potentially the SA of the SA/DA is a very good trigger. I was wondering if this trigger system fell in line with what is placed in the compact models. I have also heard that the compact models get stuck with heavy, gritty, triggers, SA or DA. I am looking for a 4-5lb smooth trigger in a compact 9mm and would love to try CZ if they fit that criteria. So what is the verdict on the compact CZ triggers?

Benzy my P-01 is extremely, extremely reliable. But I'll be damned if it's a smooth, 4# trigger.

I spoke to a guy who loves his trigger after it was worked on by CZ Custom shop. I asked him how much it cost and he said $225 :barf:

My only CZ has been the 75 Compact. My comment applies to that Model.

That paticular CZ is a DA/SA. Maybe the DA or SA only flavors of the CZ platforms are 'user friendly', but the DA/SA isn't.

A better shape thumb safety is available from EGW should you prefer to carry SA cocked and locked. Its a special order piece. I sent Geo at EGW a new safety and waited a year for it to be modified. It was better. If you have delusions thinking a Compact in SA is a short version of a BHP, the CZ isn't even close.

Understand that I have average size hands and can not palm a basketball. That said, you can carry with the hamer at half-cock in DA mode. That'd put the trigger back a bit for better DA leverage.

Check out the PCR if you can find it. I have one, and I can't really imagine carrying a gun with a full steel frame instead of the alloy. Then again, I only weigh 130 pounds, so it may go by percentages. :D

And, yes, CZ's do have their little quirks, as do most things. The stock grips are the most comfortable ones I've ever felt but may be a little thick (I've never had any problems), I've heard complaints about the trigger's reach (but I have small hands for a guy and it's just dandy for me--man up, people. ;) ) and the chambers can be tight and throat can be short. That has never caused any problems outside of my overlong reloads, but test a box of any defensive ammo you may carry before committing to it. I still recommend Federal HST's if you can get your hands on them.

Need to figure out where I can get more, myself...
