Okay, now that I have my PCR and Boriqua holster, I'm continuing on my journey to make my "grail gun" uniquely my own. I intend in the near future to get it "tuned" for concealed carry, but that will have to wait a month or two (or three ...). In the meantime, I am thinking about grips. Here's what I've come up with so far.
A. I really like the look of wood grips.
B. I like the palm swell of the stock grips (it's one of the reasons I first fell in love with the PCR in the first place), but I don't care for the rough feel of the checkered rubber. This is, I assume, what is meant by the term "aggressive texture"?
C. To my eye, reddish (e.g. cocobolo) or light-colored (e.g. maple, alder) woods look better with the black-colored metal. I'd like to find wood that has lots of either figure or burl.
And here's what I'm finding after looking at hundreds of images of custom grips and dozens of websites.
1. Some of the wood grips I like best are from Marschal Grips. BUT -- I've seen many reviews that suggest that Marschal doesn't communicate very well with customers and takes a long time to deliver.
2. Hakan has a nice selection of wood, but doesn't do checkering. I would prefer to get a half-checker. I'm not terribly impressed with his stippling work.
3. Wood grips from CZ have received a lot of negative reviews, and their wood seems to be hit-or-miss -- everything from lots of figure to essentially none.
4. I've seen some interesting grips with attractive laser engraving but they're almost always walnut, which I don't think looks as nice as the other woods I've mentioned above.
5. I've also looked at G-10 grips from Lok and Coolhand, but I haven't found a combination of color (either red/black or white/black) and grip texture that I like that also comes in the palm swell style.
Any suggestions??
Maybe I'm looking for the custom grip version of a unicorn??
