CZ 75 or 85? and questions.

I have been thinking for some time of adding another CZ to the stable to go with my P-01. Local dealer has no 75s in stock, but has a 85 for about the same price. I'm not really needing the ambi safety and slide release, but I don't think it bothers me either. Any problems with the 85? Can the ambi slide release be replaced with a single sided one? Thanks for any help.

It really depends on what you like. I have an 85 combat and a 75 SA. I choose the combat for IPSC production and IDPA SSP, but I would have been happy with a 75.
I don't think you could remove the right slide release very easy on the 85 at least not using a regular 75 release.
Also my 75 holster doesn't fit my 85 very well because of the release, so that may be somehting to consider.
The combat has some advantages over the regular 85 which drew me too it. (better trigger, better sights, extended mag release) but I don't think any of them would have persuaded me to buy it if I hadn't gotten a killer price on it.

75, if you don't need the extra 85 stuff. Then Hakan grips, and an HBE holster, and you're all set.

If it's an 85 combat

It is is an 85 combat I would get it over the 75 for a couple of reasons.

1. The magazines free fall. I know this sounds silly but when your used to the magazines falling free in your other guns this can be an anoyance.

2. The firing pin is held in place by a firing pin stop, ala 1911, instead of a roll pin. So there is no worry of the roll pin breaking or backing out releasing the firing pin.

3. There isn't a firing pin block which usually yields a better out of box trigger.

If it isn't an 85 combat and just the 85B I would go with the 75 since the only differences are the ambi controls.

I agree with Browneu. If it's a CZ85 Combat then I'll prefer it over the others. But if its between a C75 or 85, I'll go for the CZ75. I don't like the ambi controls (seems to break easily and it did on mine many eons ago) unless you're a leftie.

The drop free magazine issue is a non-issue. It's easier and quicker to fix then the magazine disconnect issue on Hi-Powers.

Id second and third what others have said. The 85 Combat is a nice shooter......but if you dont want/need the lefty stuff....just go with the version of the 75 that suits your needs.....the SA is a stellar carry/comp gun out of the box. My favorite.

The one I was looking at was a plain old 85 not the Combat. Only real reason I was considering the 85 was just a lack of an available 75. Maybe I'll just wait a while and see what pops up. I didn't mind the ambi safeties of the 85, but didn't much care for the ambi slide release. I currently don't have anything other than revolvers that has ambi controls, so thought it might be nice.
