Which CZs have ambi-safeties?

I've been trying to figure out today which 9mm semi-auto CZs feature an ambidextrous safety and allow for cocked-and-locked carry.

From my reading at CZ-USA, CZUB, and various forums, it appears the ambi-equipped 9s are:
  • CZ 85b
  • CZ 85 Combat
  • CZ 75b Stainless frame only
  • CZ 75 SA
  • CZ 75 SP01
which are all full-size, plus the subcompact
  • 2075 RAMI Polymer frame only

Have I missed any? Nothing in the compact (PCR/P-01) size in 9mm features an ambi safety -- or the ability to have an ambi safety added -- right? Anyone know if CZ plans to release a 9mm CZ 75 Compact 9 with ambi safety (either steel or alloy frame)?

Also: is the Stainless 75b the same gun as the 85b, except for the stainless frame and rubber grip panels? Any other differences?

Thanks, from a southpaw!

Thanks, LH.

The PCR was my first semi-auto, which is why I'm a CZ fan. It's great and I like the decocker function, but I'm itching to try a 9mm DA/SA CZ with a manual (ambi) safety. Right now it's looking like the 85B or 75B stainless are my best options...though I really wish CZ made the Compact 9 with an ambi safety, since I find the size of the PCR just about perfect. I want to stick to 9mm for ammo compatibility -- otherwise I'd just get the Compact .40.

I'm still trying to figure out if the Stainless 75B is identical to the 85B, except for the stainless frame and rubber grip panels

Thanks!

A handful of yeras ago, I talked to Mike Eagleshield about converting a PCR to use the Compact safety. He indicated that he'd done a few, but that it was a $200 investment to make it so.

Sadly, all of the alloy/compact CZs are decocker-only.

The problem with the alloy/vs/steel framed CZ's is the width. The Std steel framed safety is about 1/8" to narrow to work in the alloy frames...

But the now defunct CZ40B is the only alloy framed gun that had the regular safety...so if they have them in stock and can machine the safety detents in the frame....then your set.

A cocked and locked PCR would be a wonderful thing......

Shoot well and god bless

DouglassW,

The CZ-75B Stainless is the similar to the 85B except as you noted and...

no ambidextrous slide release.

While I'm not sure whether CZ now offers an ambi thumb safety as an accessory or not, all shouldn't be lost.

I'm also a southpaw and wanted the 'cocked 'n' locked' option for my CZ 97-B. Having no CZ-made option, I had Neal Keller install one from EAA. CZ-USA wouldn't do it as the replacement part wasn't theirs. It required a minor frame mod to accomodate a slightly different detent, but was otherwise completely compatible. It should also work for 9mm models other than decockers. The part was a bit pricey at around $70, but the installation work wasn't too salty.

With a duty action tune the whole job was a little over $200. I consider it money well spent.

CZ does supposedly offer an ambi decocker, I was told they are available for ordering, however I have never seen one aside from a SP01 in Guns & Ammo. Since I prefer the decocking action, I think I will be pursuing this option further.

I didn;t know the Rami P had ambi stuff, anyone care to confirm/deny?

I've never seen an Ambi decocker on a CZ, and have heard it would require quite a bit of machining/custom fitting to work. Please let us know what you find in your research.

Yes, the Rami P has an ambi safety (and can be carried either cocked & locked or hammer down). From CZ's Czech website, with the caption "ambidextrous safety":

As a side note, I sure wish the CZ-USA site would specify whether a safety is single-sided or ambidextrous. As of now, they list either type as "Manual Safety" in each pistol's specifications.
