I few weeks ago I posted a nontechnical range report on two new guns that I purchased, a CZ 75B & Beretta 92FS. I found that the 92fs had a much smoother trigger, which in turn allowed me to be more accurate with it. The CZ did get better as more & more rounds were fired, but still not where the 92FS is. Today I went over 1500 (all flawless) rds fired & I'm still not satisfied. I showed the CZ to my local gunsmith & he said that he would be able to smooth it out considerably. My question is should I hold off & just continue firing rds through it or bite the bullet & pay to get the trigger job done? I'm thinking that with over 1500 rds fired it's not going to get much better so pay the man & be done with it. Suggestions/comments. Thanks

Shoot it! It will continue to get better. My 75B has possibly the best trigger of any of my pistols. Smooth double action and crisp predictable single action. When I first got it it was very rough, but it has turned into a dream. I even prefer it to my 1911. (Doesn't hurt that it's reliable either.)

triplebike:

By 1500 rds the sear and springs are 'mostly' seated and worn in.

What's the 75B caliber and what type of shooting do you mostly do with your CZ?

The 75B comes with a #20 'hammer/mainspring'. It will run fine and show a marked trigger improvement with a #15 hammer spring. The change is easy to do, and the springs are not expensive. (gunsprings.com or the CZ Custom Shop). They also sell a spring 'pack' for a few dollars more that will let tune your gun to the pull you prefer. The CZ Custom Shop trigger job includes a #15 hammer springspring, unless the customer specifically asks for a different weight.

The 15lb. hammer spring will help but if you decide to go with a trigger job just
order the competition hammer from cz custom and have you gunsmith install it. It will make the trigger pull alot better. Mark

My neighbor has about 1000 rounds downrange in his CZ75B stainless.

He has also worn out several snap caps with thousands more dry-fires in DA and SA.

His trigger is slicker than owl snot.

Dear Triplebike,

Let me share my experience with my CZ75B.. The DA trigger stays as it is, since the day1. So no expectations on DA trigger.

After first 750 rounds the SA trigger gets to be softened a bit. Not as smooth and crisp as a 1911's trigger but quite satisfactory.

Please note that out of box trigger of my CZ75B is far better then 92F triggers.
In other words, CZ75B's trigger may easily compete with most sig sauer(s) triggers.. IMHO the CZ's trigger will be the winner.

Cheers,

triplebike,

You got one of those "rough cut" CZ hammers, that's where the problem is. I have seen many CZ hammers, some are cut very smooth, some rough, some in between. By rough cut I mean tool cutting marks on the hammer/sear engagement face.

If your gunsmith is CZ competent, he can smooth the hammer and sear, polish, and install a 15# mainspring. You will still feel the hammer camming that is built into the design; some folks are OK with this, some can't tolerate it. But this alone will make the action much, much, smoother.

As mentioned by someone previously, the CZ Competition hammer is the ultimate solution. You simply have to experience the difference to appreciate and understand the improvement. All 6 of my CZ's have it.
